In this
article, we are going to find out details regarding the post of Senior Secretariat
Assistant also known as Upper Division Clerks in various central government
departments.
Salary
of Senior Secretarial Assistants through SSC CGL
The post of
senior secretarial assistant was previously known as the upper division clerk
in various central government departments. The post comes under Group C of the
general central service and the post carries the grade pay of Rs 2400 with the
corresponding pay band being Rs 5200-20200. The gross salary for this post in a
Class X city, as per the norms of the government of India, is around Rs 26000
but after revision, this is expected to be around Rs 36000 in the same
location. For other places, the HRA component differs and that is why, the
gross salary differs as well. However, the minimum gross salary after the 7th
Pay Commission recommendations are implemented, is expected to be around Rs
32000 in a class Z city. This post carries all India liability, however,
initially, you are going to be posted in New Delhi only, in the most likely
scenario.
Job
Profile of Senior Secretarial Assistant
As the name
suggests, this post is basically a clerical level post and all the works that
will be allotted to you are in the nature of clerical jobs only. You have to
maintain files in the concerned departments and also have to reply to mails
received in your department. At the same time, you may be tasked with drafting
RTI replies and sending them to your senior officer for approval. Data entry
jobs may also be allotted to you. One thing is there and that is, you are less
likely to be held responsible for anything that happens in your department. You
may reach office at 10 and leave it by 5 sharp without any problem.
Promotional
Avenues of Senior Secretarial Assistant
This is
considered as one of the worst posts in terms of getting promotions to higher
cadre since you will never be able to reach much higher if you enter the job
through this route. Once you are confirmed in the job, the next promotion will
be that of an assistant in the department you are posted at and that takes a
minimum of 5 years from the date of your joining. But, again, it all depends on
the number of vacancies and the senior officers available in that particular
region of the department. Usually, it takes a decade to promote in the next grade
through this post. Once you are an assistant, it takes another 5 to 7 years to
rise up to the level of section officer in your concerned department and this
is a gazetted post of the government. Most of the assistants retire at this
stage as vacancies are very rare and there are always senior candidates in
every region. So, chances of even one promotion are very difficult in this
post.
Senior
Secretarial Assistant is not a very popular post among all the posts for which
recruitment is carried out. This post is not very preferred because it makes
you live in a big city in the initial years and your salary is not that much to
live a decent life in a big city. On the other hand, young and ambitious
aspirants are not going to stick to this cadre because of its career stagnation
policy. You are stuck in this post once you get. So, people generally give this
as one of their last choices. However, workload is almost nil in this job and
at the same time, you are not at all responsible for anything at your department,
so, no accountability at all. Rest is upto you where your priorities lie in
life
All the best!!
