After selection there will be a training of 59 months. Out of which, 42 weeks of training is done in CBI Academy Ghaziabad, UP. Training program is as follows:
CBI Sub Inspector Salary in Hand & Facilities:
- Sub Inspector in CBI is a Group B Non Gazetted Post
- Grade Pay 4600 (Before 7th CPC it was under GP 4200).
- Level 7. Starting Basic Pay Rs. 44900.
- Also, a SI in CBI gets extra 25% of Basic Pay + DA as Special Incentive Allowance (SIA) i.e around Rs 11000.
- Also, an SI in CBI is paid salary for 13 months, due to hectic work, overtime and some working Saturdays.
- CBI Sub Inspector Salary in Hand is around Rs. 61000 to 63000 (including old HRA, SIA, DA, TA). For complete Salary Details: See below
- CGHS Facility for Medical, HRA, TA, DA (to compensate for inflation), Advances etc.
SSC Salary
Chart as per the approval given by Cabinet on 28th Jun for hiked allowances.

HRA is to be
paid at 24% of Basic Pay for X-class City, 18% for Y-Class City and 8% for
Z-Class City. And will be increased to 27/18/9 % when DA crosses 25% and

Least HRA paid
would be Rs 5400/3600/1800 (according to city).
Classification
of Cities for HRA (House Rent Allowance):
X – Population
of 50 lakh & above.
Y – Population
of 5-50 lakh.
Z – Population
of below 5 lakh.

After training
almost 90% of the individuals are posted in Delhi Zone at first. After some
time they will be posted to one of 21 zones of CBI.
Almost half of
the CBI staff work in Delhi as CBI Headquarter is in Delhi. Posting is
generally in metro cities like (Delhi, Mumabi, Kolkata etc.)
CBI Sub Inspector Job Profile (Life in CBI):
In Field:
- Conducting Inquiries/Investigation & gather Info.
- During Investigation a CBI official is the head of the team, consisting of state police officers and other concerned departments.
- Type of investigation depends on zone (Anti-corruption Division, Economic Offences Division, Special Crimes Division).
- One might have to deal with terrorists and elicit info from them.
In Desk:
- Normal filework/paperwork, which is clerical and administrative in nature.
- Not much workload. Fixed working hours.

completion of 4 years of regular service with good track record a Sub Inspector
in CBI will be eligible to appear for departmental exam for the post of
DSP.
CBI Sub Inspector Uniform:
There
is no uniform attached with it. Officer work in normal
civilian clothes.
Pros:
- Most powerful & influential post among all.
- CBI Sub Inspector Powers: A CBI officer command respect from Society in General, and specifically from Businessman, Govt. Officials, Bankers etc.
- Will get to learn many new things.
- Get to meet a lot of people and have wonderful experiences.
- Highest Salary among all SSC CGL Posts. (Surpasses even AAO)
Cons:
- Poor Work-Life Balance: Extended working hours, might even have to work on Saturdays.
- Have to travel a lot through India for investigation purposes.
- No Stability: Transfers every few years.
- Stressful Job, so there may be lack of peace of mind.
- SSC candidates who joins every year as Sub Inspector in CBI, almost 25% of them leave the job, for the reasons best known to them.
Cut offs for Sub Inspector in CBI:
Marks are out of 700 (Tier 1 + Tier 2 + Tier 3).
